Bravo, Realmente Bravo!

Bravo, Realmente Bravo!

Realmente Bravo are bringing the goods via their brand of design and art direction. We’re talking digital surrealism, doused in popping colours and just a teensy bit of irony. They’re a couple of cool cats out of Spain, Vik Autofocus and Paula Schmerz, a designer and audio visual artist respectively.

Like most good things, the Realmente Bravo aesthetic and multidisciplinary approach was born out of DIY. Exploring art and post-internet culture, Vik and Paula started creating their own homemade sets, and the concepts grew from there. The collective have collaborated with girlsgetbusy zine and...

Structures, shadows and subway stations - dreamy paintings from Trek Matthews

Structures, shadows and subway stations - dreamy paintings from Trek Matthews

We recently stumbled across the insanely beautiful work of Trek Matthews, a painter, illustrator and maker based in Atlanta, USA. All it took was a single little peep at one of his mesmerising isometric, pastel pieces and we were ripping through his back catalogue faster than an express Shinkansen.

Trek Matthews work is impressive and shape-shifting, whether its a small scale gouache on paper, an unexpected installation piece or monster-sized murals on the side of a building. We were surprised to read that his journey to painting was quite sudden and fast tracked. Originally...

Cheeky characters and bulk colour from artist Andy Rementer

Cheeky characters and bulk colour from artist Andy Rementer

Andy Rementer’s work is addictive. An illustrator and all-round creative based out of Philadelphia, his work is vibrant, colourful and zany. Since graduating the University of Arts in 2004, and after a stint working in Italy, Andy divides his time between drawing, cartooning, painting and animating. You may have seen his characteristic heavy outlines and block colour drawings for the New York Times, MTV Urban Outfitters or Apartamento magazine. Perhaps you’ve even caught an exhibition; he’s had solo shows and acclaim across Europe, the US, Australia and Asia.

Andy has said that he is...

Ettore Sottsass Appreciation Time

Ettore Sottsass Appreciation Time

He’s a founding member of the iconic and influential Memphis Design Group and has been  dubbed the Godfather of Italian Cool. The work, marrying unlikely combinations in colour, pattern and line, and ground breaking ideas brought him fame, and extraordinary social circles. Ettore Sottsass was one of the first industrial designers to rise to global celebrity in the 20th century. We’re not going to lie. This is a blatant Ettore Sottsass Appreciation Post.

He was born in Austria in 1917, and grew up in Milan. His father was an architect, and he followed with...

Colourful, sculptural rugs from Jonathan Josefsson

Colourful, sculptural rugs from Jonathan Josefsson

So, something pretty amazing just happened. Swedish artist Jonathan Josefsson literally just changed the way we see and think of rugs. To be honest, prior to stumbling across his amazing textiles, we haven’t really spent too much time pondering the ancient craft of rug making. Now we can’t stop fantasising about what his pieces would look like adorning our floors or, definitely more suitably, our walls. Unless we get our hands on one quick-smart, we have a feeling no other rug in our lives is going to cut it from now on!

Based in...
