Wes Anderson designed a bar and it is everything you would imagine it to be

Wes Anderson designed a bar and it is everything you would imagine it to be

Could this be real? Surely it’s too good to be true. We rubbed our eyes and pinched our skin, and the headlines remain; Wes Anderson designed a Wes Anderson bar.

It’s called Bar Luce by Wes Anderson and was designed as a part of Prada’s new art and culture complex, Fondazione Prada. We’re cryin’ though, because the only way of getting a teeny tiny slice o’ this kitschy, cinematic Wes paradise is by means of a trip to Milan, Italy.

Aesthetically, Bar Luce is inspired by Italian Neorealism films like “Miracle in...

Delicate lines and negative space from Liam Stevens

Delicate lines and negative space from Liam Stevens

Liam Stevens is a talented designer and illustrator based in London. Over the last few years we’ve watched his work evolve from intensely detailed diorama-like pencil drawings to pared back, sophisticated and atmospheric compositions.

With a pen, pencil or paintbrush, Liam mostly creates work using simple, consistent line-work with a focus on geometric shapes. From simple, continuous, organic curves to regimented and thought-out crosshatching, his work is an exploration of these varying examples of line-work execution. Much of the time, the work is semi-abstract with line, form and colour only just hinting at forms...

Elegantly stark, minimal film photography from Dakota Gordon

Elegantly stark, minimal film photography from Dakota Gordon

We’ve been following the work of Sydney-based photographer Dakota Gordon for some time now. Growing up on Sydney’s northern beaches, she started shooting at a mere 15 years old. She taught herself how to use her first SLR, mostly shooting her friends and bands at local hardcore shows. It was in 2011 that she started to take her photography work a little more seriously. She started shooting on 35mm film with her Contax and things starting to pick up online. Circa this time, we first encountered her work rolling around Tumblr.

Young moody girls...

Geoff McFetridge - “Studies”

Geoff McFetridge - “Studies”

Make no mistake, we have been long time fans of California-based artist and designer Geoff McFetridge. With his iconic, minimal drawings and brilliant mind, who isn’t? Ok, so now you can understand how excited we were when we made our way down to the Melbourne Art Book Fair at the NGV on the weekend, and found his new zine sitting pretty at the Perimeter Books booth. The feeling was a little something like this. Oh yes, sweet euphoria.

If you haven’t been acquainted with Geoff’s work, here’s the down low....

Beautiful objects from Sophie Harle aka Shiko Ceramics

Beautiful objects from Sophie Harle aka Shiko Ceramics

Tucked away down a little Brunswick alley, a potter we find extremely inspiring and beautiful toils away in her home studio from morning to night. Sophie Harle is the designer and maker of the pottery line Shiko. She throws tableware, cups, bowls, vases, plates, platters - pretty much anything that is useful. The vessels are quiet, simple, functional and humble. We’ve been slowly collecting her pieces for some time now, and we can tell you that they’re the first cups, bowls and plates we reach for in the cupboard. They’re the kind of wares that make morning cuppas feel richer,...
