Abbey Rich: bright, positive handmade garments and textile design from Melbourne

Abbey Rich: bright, positive handmade garments and textile design from Melbourne

We can’t be too sure but there must be something catching in the Melbourne water right now with the calibre of slow, ethical fashion labels blowing up. Abbey Rich is the latest project run by young, fashionable, talented, time-savvy humans that we’ve been turned onto by scrolling through Instagram. Designer, Abbey Rich is the 21 year old BA Textile Design student who is at the helm of the equally young label. With the assistance of fashion designer and dress maker Laura Clark and a small bounty of interns, Abbey is using clothing design and production as a means...

Transcendent experiences + exotic landscapes + the internet = art brand BFGF

Transcendent experiences + exotic landscapes + the internet = art brand BFGF

Sometimes you stumble across a brand and their work just sticks. Compelling, memorable and original, BFGF is one of these brands. Maybe it was the silk scarf illustrating Drake eating a salad or the blankets covered in naively drawn homages to Matisse, Nike and Lisa Simpson. We simply haven’t been able to get BFGF out of our minds.

Artist and photography graduate Lilian Martinez is the founder and creator of the art brand. Based in Los Angeles, Lilian is at the helm creating everything from tees to mouse pads covered in positive, beautiful, simple graphics....

Paintings like a summer walk by Leah Bartholomew

Paintings like a summer walk by Leah Bartholomew

Leah Bartholomew’s art is like an east coast Australian summer. Colourful, bold and full of light; we reckon you can almost feel the lick of a sea breeze and buzz of cicadas. After doing some reading on Leah, we’re actually not too far off the mark. Based in Coolangatta in south east Queensland, Leah is a practising artist and designer and her work is a response to her everyday interactions with the environment surrounding her. So yes, that means bush walks, roaring waves and oceanic beauties, warm rocks and blinding blue skies.

The...

Lauching this week: Stacks On

We’ve got a little thing for zines. They can pick you up on a bad day and inspire you in all manner of ways. Given their tangibility and self-publishing nature, you can feel like you’re holding a small piece of the creators brain in your hands or get to know them a little better knowing that their own hands have played a heavy role in getting that neat little book to exist. Not to mention their very affordable price point makes acquisition very easy (and dangerous, eek).

If you enjoy special, limited edition...

Pop culture perversion by Japanese artist Ken Kagami

Pop culture perversion by Japanese artist Ken Kagami

Ken Kagami is one very strange, very cool guy. He’s a Japanese artist based in Tokyo and spends his days flipping pop culture on its head, running his shop Strange Store and Instagram-ing everything from his latest experiments to his very cool daughter.

If you’re a bit confused looking at Ken’s work, we won’t blame you. His style is at once eccentric and simplistic, combining innocence and adultery with a good measure of black humour. Charlie Brown getting down with Snoopy, messed up Bart Simpson, E.T fan art, genitals, sex, poop, dogs, toys,...
