We recently had the pleasure of stumbling across the beautiful work of super talented cake wizard Alana Jones-Mann and boy are we happy about it. Her creations are not only stunning but double as delightful works of edible art that are colourful, fun, abstract and textural appealing.
After spending 6 years in the big apple planning large scale events for a marketing and PR company Jones-Mann now calls LA home. A stylist and designer at heart she has an intense passion for crafting and baking focusing heavily on all things detail.
“For me, it’s all about the details. I truly believe that personal touches can make any occasion unforgettable.”
In addition to the usual suspects of conventional cake-decorating like flowers and festive holidays, Jones-Mann has also found inspiration in an unlikely source: the humble shag rug.
Featuring colourful, abstract and textured surfaces, Jones-Mann’s carpet delights capture the spirit animal that was the 70’s. Each retro rug cake is covered in buttercream frosting with her precise piping technique.
"For my cakes, I primarily use buttercream for the exterior, as I prefer to keep the ingredients simple and the taste delicious. I'm not a fan of cakes covered in fondant and always try to encourage my clients to move away from fondant, as well as many of the other more traditional cake styles," Jones-Mann says.
We love and adore Alana’s work although it makes us feel like none of our birthday cakes were truly worthy. Check out all her other amazing creations below like Burrito biscuits and cactus cupcakes. Safe to say this gal is the leader of the pack when it comes to things looking too good to eat.
