We love the bold, exciting work of New York-based multidisciplinary designer Alex Proba

Alex Proba is one of those designers whose work you look at and just find yourself whispering, ‘how?’. The very definition of multidisciplinary, Alex is a German-born, Brooklyn-based designer who, under the self-titled moniker Studio Proba, pumps out incredible work in the realms of product, graphic, environmental and furniture design. Her client list runs strong, having worked with the likes of Mother New York, Target, Google and Kickstarter. She’s exhibited her work in Milan and London, and this year was shown as part of Assembly, London Design Fair’s first US Pavilion. And did we mention she’s currently the Art Director at NIKE? Yeah, we know what you’re thinking; Alex Proba is a powerhouse!

Her foray into design was an unlikely one, originally planning to attend medical school but decided to study spatial and graphic design in Hamburg. From here, Alex hopped over to the Netherlands for a few years to study furniture design, before moving to the melting pot of New York in 2011. She moved for a summer project and ended up staying, and Studio Proba emerged as a result of combining all the things she loved — using various mediums, analogue and digital, to explore design and illustration.

Alex’s work is made up of everything we adore — bold graphics, smart colour, geometric shape with a whiff of the organic and imperfect. Her eye is keen, blending bold patterns and geometry together to create compositions that you can’t help but enjoy. We especially love her recent collaboration with Italian rug company cc-tapis, made especially for Salone del Mobile in Milan. It’s a beautiful, artisanal handmade rug that is a pure celebration of colour and pattern. Bellissimo!
