Pizza slice piñatas, colourful felt collages, tasty illustrations and oversized props. We're gonna go out on a limb here and say Kitiya Palaskas has us wishing she was our primary school art teacher.
It's safe to say craft-based designer Kitiya Palaskas lives a very colourful life. The Melbourne based crafting genius primarily focuses on using handmade techniques and traditional craft methods but re-imagined in contemporary ways adding her own fresh and unique spin on things. Palaskas painstakingly designs, creates and brings to life all her creations by her own two hands from her studio in Melbourne's inner suburbs.
Kitiya has a distinct eye-catching aesthetic of bright colours, eccentric patterns, bold silhouettes and kitsch styled themes which spans from retail, music, advertising and publishing industries. She is also the author of Piñata Party, a DIY craft book that will help make all your wildest party dreams come true. YAASSSS!
She doesn't discriminate when it comes to her abilities either with her designs spanning the paper-craft, soft sculpture, embroidery, textiles, collage, and woodworking realms.
One of her most recent endeavours was the set design, art direction, scripting and hosting for "Craft with Kit" a rad little web show filmed on VHS for Warner Music Australia. The show was a playful, tongue-in-cheek homage to the traditional craft shows of the 80s like Art Attack and Playschool. Each episode featured a different band on the Warner roster who were invited to chat about their music while making a craft.
We could probably talk about Kit forever or scroll for hours through pictures of her delightful creations. Here are some of our faves!
