We are in romantic cahoots with the dramatic and beautiful paintings of French artist and illustrator Inès Longevial.
Living and working in Paris, Inès has been painting for as long as she can remember. Taking inspiration from the classics like Picasso and Matisse, and reminiscing on her childhood memories spent painting in the French countryside, her resulting style is tender and romantic, yet strong and bold. She’s come a long way since her time spent with her pencils as a small child, being commissioned now by the likes of Nike, Levis, The New Yorker, Heineken and Kitsuné.
With her paints, Inès creates a world where the body is sensual and inclusive, where women can be round and their skin can be different shades and colours. Working primarily with oils, dabbling in pencils and markers, she challenges the cliché expectations of femininity and elevates a more unique perspective of the female form. She takes joy in breaking down the human figure into segments and elements, painting the parts that are so often forgotten; like fingertips, cheekbones and subtle shadows. Summery women reclining in pairs in the sun, the light casting dramatic, textural, geometric shadows on their skin, painted in contrasting, muted palette.
