The Art Newspaper has crunched the numbers and the verdict is in, Yayoi Kusama’s exhibit, Infinite Obsessions, saw more than 2 million visitors while on display throughout South America. That’s close to 9,000 visitors a day, smashing records and breaking hearts all over the world.
Not only is Kusama a total babe, but her style is flawless and she loves polka dots and colour so we doubt she could get any more amazing. Either way, Odd Pears just crunched the numbers, the votes (we might have stuffed the ballots a little) are in and we would like to be the first to break the news that Yayoi Kusama is officially the coolest 86 year old alive. If her Japanese Pumpkin wasn’t enough to win you over, then perhaps her collaboration with Louis Vuitton will get your ice cold heart throbbing again. Her dot-pattern works stand out like a beacon which has made her work instantly recognisable, thus preserving the authenticity and originality of her artworks.
If by now you aren’t already madly, deeply, in love then we think you should get yo’self online and peep some images of her shows, they are glorious. Though she might be well into her 80’s, this amazing small human just doesn’t want to quit, and we are more than okay with that. Heck, if you put polka-dots on it they will come right?
