One of our favourite artists, The Seven Seas, has a new solo show opening this week at Tinning Street Gallery in Brunswick.
Attention, attention! This is a PSA! We’ve got a pretty cool event to pop in your calendar for this week!
‘Object Without The Matter’ is to be his second solo show, exploring larger sculptures and installations. Turning 2D worlds in the form of his instantly recognisable delicate lines into third dimensional objects, the work is delving into themes of consciousness, perception, emotion and observation.
If you’re not familiar with the work, it’s about time you got acquainted. The Seven Seas, aka super nice bearded guy Callum Addis aka best friends with the incredible Melbourne textile artist Cat Rabbit, is a multidisciplinary artist from Melbourne. Working in the realms of illustration and sculpture, Callum draws and sculpts characters imbued with a deep sense of sleepy serenity. His depictions of melancholy men, otherworldly hands and an implied sinking feeling create the sense of a parallel universe. A place where pensive side profiles and elegant hands float quietly and celestially in negative space. With roots in graffiti and painting, we’ve seen Callum’s work progress through the years to where it sits now - ethereal and sophisticated.
Pop down to Tinning Street Gallery this Thursday 12th March for Object Without The Matter. We’ve seen some sneak peeks of a pretty enormous sculptural guy and a lot of resin activities going down on Callum’s Instagram and are practically shivering with anticipation.
